The ARTECOM – Art, Technology and Community project is promoted by the University of L’Aquila, the leading body of the initiative, in collaboration with the University of Teramo and the Alfredo Casella Conservatory of L’Aquila, institutions that contribute with multidisciplinary skills in the sectors of technological research, digital innovation and artistic-musical training. Alongside these academic entities, the project makes use of the contribution of the National Inter-University Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT), which provides a scientific contribution in the field of telecommunications and advanced digital technologies, and of the University Consortium for Industrial and Managerial Economics (CUEIM), involved in the activities of analyzing the territory and disseminating the results.
The initiative was financed as part of the public notice for the selection of project proposals presented by public universities and public research bodies located in the regions of Southern Italy, becoming part of the research, development and testing activities of the RAISE (Robotics and AI for Socio-Economic Empowerment) Ecosystem. The project is part of the actions of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Mission 4 – Education and Research, component 2, “From Research to Business” – Investment 1.5, with the support of the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
objective of the project
The initiative was born with the aim of promoting social inclusion through the use of new digital technologies applied to art and culture. The project involves the creation of interactive multimedia installations located in the urban spaces of the city of L’Aquila, designed to encourage the inclusive use of cultural heritage by citizens, with particular attention to children and adolescents who, due to economic and social fragility, have limited access to artistic experiences.
The integration between advanced digital technologies, artificial intelligence and innovative expressive forms allows the city to be transformed into a widespread cultural laboratory, in which active participation becomes the engine of dynamic and inclusive artistic enjoyment. The project intends to enhance the territory through immersive multimedia experiences, capable of stimulating the involvement of the local community and strengthening the bond between citizens and their own cultural identity.

impact and benefits for the community

The project aims to generate a significant impact on the urban and social fabric, promoting a new model of cultural enjoyment based on active participation and the use of digital technologies. The creation of interactive installations represents an opportunity to broaden access to culture and reduce the socio-economic gap in artistic experiences.
The initiative promotes community involvement through an approach that enhances intergenerational dialogue, offering young people and adults the opportunity to explore new forms of artistic expression and sharing cultural heritage. The integration of urban information in the installations also makes it possible to strengthen the bond between citizens and the territory, transforming the city into a dynamic environment in which new technologies become tools for building a shared cultural identity.
From this perspective, ARTECOM is configured as an innovative model for the valorisation of artistic and cultural heritage, positioning itself as an example of good practices in the context of the digital transformation of cities. The initiative aims to promote social inclusion, personal growth and collective participation, contributing to the creation of a more equitable, aware and open society to experimenting with new forms of expression and cultural interaction.
